Attack" Capital of the World.
- A recently concluded World Health Organisation(W.H.O.)
study estimates that by the year 2010, globally
60% of Heart Patients would be INDIANS.
- INDIANS have 3 to 4 times higher risk of developing
Diabetes or Heart Problems, in comparison to White
Americans, six times higher than the Chinese and
20 times higher than the Japanese.
- One kilogram of extra fat contains something like
300 kilometers of capillaries which your heart has
to push the blood through. Now imagine how much
harder your heart has to work for each extra kilogram?
- Probably the worst news is that, everyday younger
people are falling prey to these diseases, as Dr.
H. S. Rissam, a Cardiologist of Indian origin in
the United Kingdom puts it “In Sixties we
saw Grand Fathers as patients, in Seventies Fathers,
in Eighties Sons, now we see Grandsons with Heart

I would be doing a great dis-service

experience which I had on 12/12/2007 at Rails Museum Auditorium,
New Delhi, when I got to hear two leading Doctors. Dr
David Heber (U.S.A) and Dr Anoop Misra (India)
[if you want to know the profile of these two Gentlemen
just put their Names in Google and hit the
search button] Dr David Heber talked about
the OBESITY problem and told that by
the year 2020 India will register a 50% increase in Diabetes
cases. He emphasized the need for Good Nutrition
and Exercise because exercise strengthens muscles and
“muscle burns more fat” He also talked about the
importance of Proteins in food and that “Plant
Proteins are the best and the safest”
Then Dr Anoop Misra was invited. Dr
Anoop Misra told us that a survey done in the
Year 1975 revealed that only 2% of Delhi’s population
had Diabetes. In the Year 1989 it went up to
7-8%. In 2004 the figure was 17%. The latest
surveys reveal that 35% of Delhi’s population
either has or is on the brink of developing Diabetes.
He also informed that Indians suffer Heart Attacks at
a relatively younger age, which are more severe in nature and
often prove fatal. A major reason he said is the lifestyle

Dr Anoop Misra then narrated a very interesting
incident. He told us that once he was invited to address a Seminar
organized by the Times of India Group in Mumbai, there
a very “Senior Journalist” asked
him a question that “Why Indians are not amongst
the top long distance Athletes or why don’t we see any
Indian in the finals of a 100 meters race in an Olympic?”
Then Dr Misra said that for that matter our
neighbouring Cricketing countries have produced Fast Bowlers
whereas we have not! Dr Misra explained it
thus he said, “the Indian population is unique”.
“Centuries ago India faced famines, which weakened our
muscles and our bodies started to store Fat for energy”.
We have retained the same Genetic make-up as a
result today our bodies have more Fat and less Muscle.
Dr Misra told us that surveys establish that
“Indians exercise the least in the World”.
Dr Misra emphasized the need for a daily exercise

Dr Misra also said that the classical
belief that women were protected against Heart Attacks by their
hormone Estrogen before Menopause, has also proved wrong as
today young women are falling victims to Heart Attacks.
